The first month of school is already “in the books.” A data point that we have been tracking is our school attendance. There is much research to support the connection between school attendance and student achievement. Throughout the month of September, our attendance percentages at each school were: ARHS 95%, FLMS 97%, GRAIS 97%, AES 95%, and FES 97%. These attendance percentages are on track with last year and are above the state average of 93.6%. We thank our students, families, and staff for recognizing the importance of being present and engaging in school.
Our Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Winners from last year were honored at Freetown VFW Memorial Post 6643 this past weekend. We thank Bruce Wilbur and everyone at Freetown VFW Memorial Post 6643 for supporting our students and for shining a light on their voices. Congratulations to Voice of Democracy Winners: 1st place Nia Kantamkulathy, 2nd place Gabbie Richards, and 3rd place Logan Pereira. Congratulations, as well, to Patriot’s Pen Winners: 1st place Amelia Brick, 2nd place Alyssa Burke, and 3rd place Breilyn Deterra. Thank you to ARHS Teacher, Laura Barnicoat, and FLMS Teacher Ryan L’Heureux for supporting our student winners.
Special thanks to our ARHS Laker football players and coaches who volunteered at the Southcoast Health Cancer Care Nicole Podkowa 5K in Fairhaven. Our players helped with the Kids Zone, including setup, activities, games, supervision, and interacting with the children and families. Proceeds from the 5K support the Nicole Podkowa Patient & Caregiver Fund, which provides financial assistance to local cancer patients and their families for necessities such as food, housing, utilities, transportation, and cancer related supplies. We are proud of our players for giving their time and for representing the Lakers.
