Acceptance is important but acceptance is crucial because awareness is passive while acceptance promotes action. Awareness is knowing some challenges of those with different abilities. Acceptance is.. Awareness is liking a post about disability and does not imply doing anything different. Acceptance is..

The FLRSD Diversity-Equity-Inclusion & Belonging Coalition met last night and dove into their understanding of acceptance versus awareness. This time was led by Mr. Strauss and Mr. Ward with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and community members present. The group culminated their time by initiating an "I AM" wall at the high school where we hope to see students' voices added over time. Examples of I AM statements  provided from the team: I am - upbeat, bi-racial, musical, an outdoorsy person, willing to listen - and many more, with the intent of students seeing the diversity within the high school community.
