Good evening FLRSD

Let me begin by restating that the Sunday message is completed during the week so at the writing of this, the storm is “potentially coming” therefore this message does not include any information about delays etc. although it appears that we will be arriving on time Monday. If anything changes, we will inform you ASAP!

We hope that you and your family had a happy winter break and a safe beginning to 2024.

I was driving with my son over break and with his eclectic love of music he was immersed in the song “Don’t Blink” by Kenny Chesney. The words were so simple yet so true that I felt compelled to share them as we somehow have already entered into a new calendar year - “Don't blink

Life goes faster than you think.”

During our time with students it’s important we work together on behalf of all of our students to provide them the best educational experience we can while on their journey through the FLRSD.

With that I share the following story, if you choose to read it, let it remind us we should never forget what is most important - each moment with our child(ren). Don't Forget

It is my hope that each day this year, you take 5 minutes to breathe deeply, laugh with those you care about and to find happiness within our kindness to others. In that kindness, we must always remember the lessons of true difficulty, which we seem to read about or experience far too often, that time is precious.  As basketball coach George Raveling once said “Our most sacred gift is time...on our self discovery journey, we can get so consumed with yesterday and worried about tomorrow that we sometimes undervalue the power of today and this fragile moment. Nothing in life is guaranteed. While we all pray for longevity, the real question becomes will we truly LIVE during the time we have. Every day is an interview, an opportunity, a negotiation, an audition, a search, a discovery and a celebration. Every day is our now.”

I hope we all choose to spend our “now” exuding daily kindness. I ask that you take some time to be kind to someone you don’t know, to someone who has helped you and ignore the noise of those who speak poorly. Those who incessantly scream loudly, say “poor me” or write in anger, reflect on themselves not you. Our time is too precious, so focus on the time we have and the good that surrounds us. And remember if we spend our time in joy then it spreads to our kids because they watch us and in a blink, our children will grow older and their time within FLRSD will be over.

Everyday so many of our Faculty, Paraprofessionals, Staff, Maintenance, Custodial and Food Service Staff, Directors, Principals, Assistant Principals, Secretaries, Nurses, Library and IT Staff, SRO, Coaches, Advisors, Schedulers as well as Central Office Administration and Staff, School Committee, Town Employees, Town Officials, and our Community Partners remind me of one the most impactful lines in a movie (Pay it Forward) that I have ever heard - “we need to take care of each other, it’s our duty ”. Those mentioned above incessantly take care of our students academically, socially, emotionally and extra curricular wise and the work of so many is truly transformative.  So as we begin the 2024 year, “don’t blink and don’t forget”!

Buses

We understand that there have been a number of buses that have been arriving later than usual due to the illness of a number of wonderful bus drivers. Please know we are working with First Student to continue to recruit more drivers and if you know anyone who is looking for work please have them contact Kenny at Kenneth.Rezendes@firstgroup.com.

PTO and Senator Rodrigues

Thank you to our PTO’s, student reps and Principals at FLMS, GRAIS, AES & FES for their hosting of Senator Rodrigues on Friday. The Senator helped secure a $1,000 donation to each PTO and his time was spent visiting all 4 schools. We deeply appreciate his support of both of our towns and his investment in our students.
