Good evening,

During halftime at the Friday night football game, our esteemed Athletic Director, Jim Cabucio and our incredibly supportive, hardworking booster club collaborated to once again present SCC championship banners from the 2022-23 school year. Championships were won in Girls Soccer, Football, Boys Tennis, Boys Lacrosse and the National Honor Society Honor bowl.

This event is deeply ingrained in ARHS tradition and is a very positive opportunity to celebrate excellence and congratulations to all of our teams.

As a leader in the district I’m inspired by both the inclusivity and excitement from boosters and athletics in simultaneously celebrating our first academic championship. Thank you booster parents for subscribing to our vision that every student and every program is to be celebrated and included.

I encourage any parent who is interested in learning more about the ARHS boosters, to please contact apponequetboostersclub@gmaiil.com

I would be remiss however to not state that I see this inclusive approach at each PTO meeting  and each School Council meeting I attend. I appreciate those who understand that we are a public school community with the premise to be supportive of all students, rather than simply a small group. I encourage everyone to contact their school PTO and find out about the wonderful opportunities provided by such a dedicated group of parent volunteers.

Within every school we have AMAZING students who give to others in so many wonderful ways and who seek to support someone simply because they are beacon of light. I have seen this first hand when I sit with students for the superintendent’s roundtable, through the various conversations I am privileged to have, or through the student driven fundraisers that permeate our schools.

We all know that giving back is not about extravagance, and we see daily throughout FLRSD and this community, the generosity and spirit of giving that our incredible faculty, staff and community partners, as well as so many of our students, contribute daily as they give “gifts” to they serve, in the form of time, care, support and kindness all of which are priceless. So I ask all of us to again, take a moment and reach out to say thank you, extend a hand, make a call rather than simply text, visit someone who could use your time and most of all, let those who might not know you appreciate them, that you do.  It is one of  those magical gifts for both parties.

This heart-warming story, sent to me by a parent, once again shows that the smallest act of giving is paying it forward and the goodness of society often will follow.  If you choose to read the story below, I hope the wonderfully kind gestures of the two police officers (which are not uncommon across the country) remain the focus of a small act of kindness multiplying. As we learned in Pay it Forward it only takes a few to spread kindness to others and sadly it only takes a few to spread hate.

Empowering Others Through Acts of Generosity

To those of you giving your time to any organization, whether in a school or in the greater community, THANK YOU for being a “light” in someone’s  world. Thank you to everyone here at FLRSD and throughout the community for paying it forward and simply “being awesome”.

Have a wonderful week and may your generosity of spirit and time continue to make a difference and may it be returned to you two-fold.

Alan
