Dear Intermediate School Families,

For World Read Aloud Day this past Wednesday, and to kickoff Black History Month, Mrs. Grabke read selections from Soul Looks Back in Wonder, a collection of poems by Langston Hughes, Walther Dean Myers, Maya Angelou, and Lucille Clifton in her classes.

Black History Month:

As we begin Black History month, our school library is highlighting many new and interesting books.  These include Who Was the Greatest?: Muhammad Ali, Who Was Kobe Bryant?, Lion Lights: My Invention that Made Peace with Lions, Race Against Time: the Untold Story of Scipio Jones and the Battle to Save Twelve Innocent Men, Saving American Beach: the Biography of African American Environmentalist MaVynee Betsch, and Buzzing with Questions: the Inquisitive Mind of Charles Henry Turner.  In her art classes, Mrs. Boissonneau continues to celebrate the talents of black artists such as Betye Saar, Alma Thomas, Shantell Martin, and Julie Mehretu, as she does throughout the year.  In Mr. Duff’s music classes, the February musician of the month is Rihanna. She comes from the island of Barbados, is the second best selling female artist of all time, and so far has raised close to 200 million dollars to aid children fighting cancer and other diseases!

The National Wear Red Day®

This past Friday, GRAIS supported the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women® movement by encouraging everyone to wear red to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease.
