Dear Intermediate School Families,

Wow, time flies! It is hard to believe that yesterday was the start of winter and we are off on our first vacation of the year tomorrow. This school year is shaping up to be a wonderful one. From my start in the district as a middle school English teacher, through my three years as assistant principal there, and right up to my being appointed principal of GRAIS seven years ago, I have always been very proud to be part of the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District. Our classrooms are looking nearly as they did pre-pandemic, with students working collaboratively with visible smiles, eyes full of wonder, and audible giggles, I consider myself very fortunate to work with the most resilient children imaginable, to lead the the most talented, compassionate, and flexible staff around, and to receive so much support and appreciation from so many wonderful families in Freetown and Lakeville! Thank you to all who so generously had your children deliver holiday gifts to me and to the teachers. Every card, treat, and gift has been so appreciated. From our GRAIS family to yours, Happy Holidays!

Keep the Learning Alive:

Although we hope our students enjoy some peaceful rest over break with some lovely, lazy days in pjs, I thought I’d share some ideas to keep them thinking that are disguised as fun family activities! You could take a family field trip, read a holiday book together, create some wonderful pieces of art, measure up some goodness by cooking and baking together, have a game night, write some thank-you notes, or take a nature hike, and the children may not even realize they are practicing math facts, working on literacy and social skills, and staying fit!

Clothing Drive:

Many thanks to the children who serve on the Superintendent’s Roundtable for helping to organize our wildly successful socks, hats, and mittens drive. Both the Conway House in Middleboro and Our Sister’s Place in Fall River have already received seven stuffed bags full of items to help keep children and adults in need warm because of your generosity. They were very grateful. Thank you to all who donated!
