Welcome Back

July 15th, 2022

Dear Intermediate School Families,

The GRAIS staff and I couldn’t be more excited to see your children and you on September 1st for our open house event.  If you are planning to attend, please arrive promptly for the start of the event at 5:45.  The event will conclude by 7:15 p.m.

Classrooms are clearly marked, and the teachers will be waiting to greet you just outside their rooms.  Grade four’s corridor starts at C4 and goes straight down to C14.  Grade five’s corridor starts at C34 and heads back to C18.  C36 and C37 are just across from our bright and cheery cafeteria!

Though each teaching team runs its welcome event a little differently, opportunities that every child may expect include:

  • Seeing both team teachers and their classrooms

  • Meeting special education liaisons if applicable

  • Seeing the areas in which students’ lockers will be assigned

  • Receiving an agenda book that is used to note assignments and as a communication tool between school and home (Cash or check payable to FLRSD in the amount of $5 will be accepted.)

  • Seeing the special subject (art, PE, music, and library science) teachers and their learning spaces

  • Exploring the building a bit

  • Meeting the principal, nurse, and adjustment counselor

  • Receiving that “dreaded” packet of new-school-year forms that must be reviewed, signed, and returned by September 9th

On the first day of school, all students entering grade four will be met by their teachers in the gymnasium, so they needn’t worry about remembering the lay of the land after our welcome event.  Students in grade five who are new to school will be directed to their homerooms by staff on the first day of school as needed too.  No one should be concerned about where to go or how to get there.  We will take good care of everyone!

It is not uncommon for families to have a conflict with making it to this event, as end-of-summer getaways are planned too.  We certainly understand that!  We encourage you to go out and make memories!   Your child will not miss anything he or she won’t get on September 6th, and you will get everything  you need on that date too.  Please do not be concerned if you cannot make this event, truly!

Three  things to note as we move through the year as far as my sharing of information:

  1. As a routine, I will send One-Call emails on Thursdays

  2. Documents attached to emails from me, expire after 30 days

  3. One-call emails go out to our entire GRAIS community, so there may be occasions when an email does not apply to you and you may simply disregard it.

If you have any questions, please contact me.  Please note that I pride myself on being very responsive to calls and emails, so please reach out so that I may help you.  You may reach me at esullivan@freelake.org or at 508.923.3506 x 3150.
