Dear Intermediate School Families,

We had a great time during our turkey trot leading into the break.  The boys and girls did a great job and were wonderful sports cheering each other on.  This annual intermediate school event continues to be a favorite!  With it and the Thanksgiving holiday behind us, we welcome the month of December!

Please be reminded that on Thursday students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.  Please send a note into school should your student’s transportation plans change from his or her routine one.

December Conferences with Teachers:

Our scheduled conferences will be on Tuesday and Thursday.  If you did not schedule a conference but would like to meet with your student’s teachers, please contact the team for a future time slot. We are happy to arrange a time during the school day for you.

GRAIS Choral Performance:

Our talented GRAIS chorus will be performing  for a big audience on Tuesday, the 12th at 6:30 p.m.in the Apponequet auditorium.  The boys and girls have been practicing for weeks, and we are very proud of them for sharing their beautiful voices with us!  A tremendous amount of gratitude goes to Mr. Alex Duff, our remarkable music teacher who manages every aspect of the chorus program.  Performers must be at the high school between 6:00 - 6:15 p.m. on the 12th!

Physical Education Class:

Our students did an awesome job participating in the turkey trot last week.  This was a great kickoff for our fitness unit in both grades. Students will be learning the five components of health-related physical fitness: cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition.  For each component, students will learn new skills and complete a series of activities, challenges, and games.  They will track their progress before winter break, and then complete the series again in the spring, aiming to improve.

Music Class:

In our fourth grade classes, students are finishing up their instrument family study guides and are about to venture into the barred percussion world.  We will be playing a festive tune on our xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels as we head into December. Fifth grade students are heading into the heart of their "Creating Music" project. Students are writing music in standard notation and then picking what instrument they would like Mr. Duff to play their compositions on.

The Library’s Tournament of Books:

The first round has just ended and with 151 votes cast, it’s been an exciting competition!
