Dear Intermediate School Families,

In only a few days, we have begun to fall solidly into a groove here at the intermediate school as far as routines and adherence to our core values of respect, responsibility, and safety! The students have been patient in the cafeteria as we settle into lunch; orderly in the halls as they pass in, around, and out of the school; and have been attentive and focused in their classrooms.  It’s gearing up to be a wonderful year!  We thank you for your continued support at home!

Constitution Day at GRAIS:

On Friday the 15th, the intermediate school will commemorate the September 17, 1787 signing of the United States Constitution by dressing in patriotic clothing and participating in a variety of activities that will bring this very important document to life for our students.  As the anniversary lands on a weekend, the department of education provides us with the option of honoring the date during the weeks before or after the 17th.

Donations:

Thank you to all who’ve dropped off or sent in frequently used classroom items, such as paper towels, wipes, and tissues.  Everything will be put to good use and is so appreciated!

Individual Fall Picture Day:

Lifetouch will be at the intermediate school for individual student pictures on October 4th, with a retake date scheduled for November 15th.  More information will follow as we receive it from Lifetouch.

From the School Adjustment Counselors’ Wing:

At the start of the new school year, parents and guardians want to hear what their student’s day looks like and how they are feeling about their day. Naturally, you ask, “How was your day?” Most of the time the response you get, especially as your student gets older,  is, “Fine.” This may lead to many other questions as you try to make sure everything is truly “fine.” Here are some suggestions of ways to get your student talking without it seeming as though you are dragging every detail out of them: How to Get Your Child to Talk About School from Understood.org.

Mrs. Maderios is our grade four school adjustment counselor and may be reached at kmaderios@freelake.org or 508.923.3506 x 3151.  Mrs. Pennini is our grade five school adjustment counselor and may be reached at mpennini@freelake.org or 508.923.3506 X 3152.   Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions for either.
