Dear Intermediate School Families,

We did it!  MCAS in all tested subject areas has been completed at GRAIS.  We are so proud of the hard work the students displayed!  Again, thank you for your help in having everyone prepared for school on testing dates.

Art and Music Event:

Our long-awaited art show and band and chorus performances were on the 18th and such cause for celebration!  The talents of our fourth and fifth graders shined brightly! Many thanks to Mrs. Boissonneau and Mr. Duff for sharing their passion for the arts with our students every day and for making last Thursday so very special. We’d also like to thank our colleagues at the middle school for allowing us to use their beautiful space for this annual event.

Grade Four Social Studies:

Fourth graders are finishing their exploration of the United States. In addition to learning about our 50 states and their capitals, we have traveled through all five regions learning about the various landforms, bodies of water, their products and natural resources, various landmarks, and the culture of each region.  We are looking forward to exploring Canada and Mexico—our neighbors to the north and south next.

Grade Four Science:

Natural resources are necessary for human life as we know it. We have learned a lot about the renewable and nonrenewable resources that are found in the natural world. We have also discussed the impacts that the use of renewable and nonrenewable resources has on the environment, both good and bad. As we wrap up our Earth science lessons we are excited to move onto our physical science lessons where we will be learning about electrical currents and the transfer of energy.

Grade Five Social Studies:

Fifth graders are finishing up their unit on the Constitution.  We hope they will all keep their pocket Constitutions in a safe place so they will always be reminded of the sacrifices that were made to ensure their freedoms.  The next unit is about the United States growing as a nation.  Students will be learning about the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, and the Age of Jackson.

Grade Five Science:

We are all so proud of the great effort our students put forth while taking their science MCAS this week!  In science classes we are finishing up our final unit where we have been learning about the hydrologic cycle and the impact of the human footprint on our world.
