Dear Intermediate School Families,

PJs Day last Friday was a hit, of course!  We will have another on Friday, April 28th, after we settle back into school following April vacation!

Spring Pictures:

Lifetouch will be back on March 29th for spring individual pictures.  Flyers will be sent home when we receive them.

Grade Four Math and Science:

In science, fourth graders are delving into the many ways to reduce the impacts of natural Earth processes on humans. Students are exploring the causes of tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, floods, and earthquakes. In math students are beginning to learn how to divide large whole numbers both with and without remainders. Math facts are crucial to successfully divide so continue to review and practice basic facts.

Grade Four ELA and Social Studies:

In ELA classes, we are looking forward to working on our open responses more in the upcoming weeks.  We will explore animals through different styles of writing, including drama and poetry.  In social studies, we are continuing our exploration of the regions and learning about their landforms, bodies of water, climate, and products and natural resources. This information is going to come in handy on March 23rd at curriculum night! We are looking forward to seeing you then.

 Grade Five Math and Science:

We are finishing up our introduction to fractions and practicing applying those skills when adding and subtracting fractions in math  In science, we have begun our unit on energy and matter cycles in ecosystems. Students are learning how energy is passed between organisms in food chains and food webs.

Grade Five ELA and Social Studies:

In  ELA classes, students continue to answer response-to-text questions with both fiction and non-fiction pieces.  They continue to use close reading strategies and text evidence to support their answers.  In social studies, students will be wrapping up our unit on the  Revolutionary War and the Articles of Confederation.  Next up, they will see how both of these led to the Constitution.
