Mr. Ward’s Message:

Welcome back!  What an exciting week at Freetown Elementary School.  Tuesday, FES welcomed back students in grades one, two, and three.  Then, on Thursday, FES welcomed our newest Freetown Foxes Kindergarten and Pre-School scholars.  Also, during the first week, we had a school-wide expectations assembly, a practice fire drill, and all students participated in “getting to know you” activities in the classroom.  What a great start to the school year.  

Attendance Matters Weekly Update:

Each week parents/guardians will receive a weekly update of school-wide student attendance.  

The goal that has been established... 94% of the FES student population will attend school daily.  

It is required for students to attend school regularly.  Please make every attempt to send your child/ren to school.  We will begin tracking our school-wide attendance data next week.

September 12: September PTO Meeting beginning at 7:00 PM

September 20:  Preschool Open House from 6:00 - 7:00 PM

September 12-16: Scholastic Book Fair Week

September 30: Fall Individual Picture Day - Lifetouch is the provider 

October 7: Early Release Day - Students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM.  No lunch service.

FES News and Happenings:

  • Starting Monday, September 12th our Universal Breakfast Program will be open daily.  Breakfast is free for all students.  Parents/guardians may drop off their child/ren from 8:45 -9:00 AM at the main entrance if you wish to have your child participate.  Bus students will have the opportunity to participate in the breakfast program by simply getting off the bus upon their arrival to Freetown Elementary School.  Please let your child know if he/she can eat breakfast at school.

News and Happenings around the classrooms:

Preschool: Welcome to a brand new year!  It was wonderful seeing our families and preschoolers at our preschool visiting day! We are looking forward to a great school year. Welcome everyone!!

Kindergarten: Welcome to all of our new kindergarteners! We met some new friends and started learning routines and expectations within our classroom and throughout the school. We are off to a fabulous start!

Grade 1: Welcome to our new first graders! We had a busy week getting to know all our new classmates! We learned about new routines and expectations. We read some books about kindness, growth mindset, and friendship. We can’t wait to see what the new school year brings!

Grade 2:  Welcome to our new 2nd graders!! The teachers really enjoyed our Back to School night and being able to meet our new 2nd Grade Scholars and their families! It has been an exciting first week here in second grade! We have been busy getting to know our new classmates, routines and classroom/school expectations. We are looking forward to a great school year!!

Grade 3:    Welcome back to school! This week we were very busy teaching and practicing our classroom and school wide routines and expectations. We also participated in get to know me activities within our new classrooms. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year! 

Music:  It’s going to be a wonderful year here at FES!  Welcome back to school everyone! This week, students K-3 have started their unit on being expressive in music. We will learn new songs, games, and movements to be performed with appropriate musicality. 

Art:  Welcome Back!  We reviewed expectations in the art room and started our first unit - line.  The art curriculum is based on the elements of art, line, shape, color, texture, space and form.  Click here to learn more about the visual arts curriculum.   

Physical Education:   Welcome Back! We learned the expectations in the gym and out on the playground at recess. If there was time left we played the game “Mumball”. We are looking forward to having a “ball” in class this year!

Library: Welcome Back! During library class, all classes learned about the expectations. First grade students listened to the read aloud “The Jacket” by Kristen Hall. Second grade students listened to the read aloud “Calvin Can’t Fly” by Jennifer Berne. Third grade students listened to the read aloud “Have I Got a Book For You!” by Melanie Watt. All grades completed an activity based on the book that was read aloud. We will start book checkout next week.
