Laker Nation had a wonderful and spirited week leading to vacation and is now firmly focused on 2023. We are focusing upon Achievement for the last three weeks of the semester. Grades will close on January 20, 2023 and the new semester will begin on January 24, 2023. Looking forward, the Program of Studies, featuring new elective and AP offerings will be presented to the School Committee and rolled out to students as they plan their FY 24 schedule!

Our DECA chapter had a great time at the District 8 Competition in Hyannis, Massachusetts on January 5th and 6th. Eighty-nine students entered and participated in this rigorous competition, and, as always, made Apponequet proud! Stay tuned for specific awards and accolades.

Laker Nation is joining the district and the wider community in remembrance of Mr. Paul Couto, beloved former Social Studies teacher. Sticker sales are held at all lunches, the school body was invited to dress in all blue and orange to recognize Mr. Couto’s favorite football team, and faculty and staff have engaged in fundraising and activities to celebrate his life.

We are offering two internships this Spring which may be the start of a great career.

If you are interested in police work, if you ever wanted to participate in a ride along, this will be your chance. SRO Bartholomew is accepting applications for next semester's Law Enforcement internship. Applications are available in guidance. Earn credit while you learn and speak directly to officers in the field.

How about firefighting and first responders? The Lakeville Fire Department is offering its second Junior Firefighter Program to Laker students. Please pick up an application in guidance. Applications due by January 13th.

This week’s Core Value Recipients:

Kasey Hrenko - Achievement

Cody Martin - Resilience

Sophia Bandera - Honor

The Apponequet Players are practicing and building the set for a much anticipated performance of the Little Mermaid, which will also travel to the other district schools in April with a mini performance. The Guidance Department will be hosting an E-Fair (Enroll, Enlist, Employ) in February and rolling out scholarship information for seniors. We continue to build avenues for engagement, participation, and joy.
