April has been a very busy month in all arenas. This last week of April has been Spirit Week with staff and students celebrating in pajamas, America wear, and Twin with a Teacher, among others. Friday, April 28th was a Pep Rally unlike any before with Senior Vs. Teacher basketball game, dance shows, contests, and giveaways. All proceeds made by nominating teachers, purchasing fan merchandise, and donating to the Miracle Minute, will be donated to the district’s Gallagher Family and CELF2 genetic research. 

The Little Mermaid is a hit! The Apponequet Players traveled to both Elementary schools to perform. On Thursday, the GRAIS students traveled to Apponequet and watched the musical performances in the venue where the magic happens. We expect high ticket sales for our Friday, May 5th, 7:00 pm showing and a 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm reprisal on Saturday, May 6th. Tickets will be sold at the door. 

The SCC Academic All Stars were honored at a banquet at Independence Harbor on Thursday.

On Tuesday, five of our academic scholar students, surrounded by family, friends, and coaches signed to play in higher education. Congratulations to:  Ethan Brown, Brian Vale,  Emilia Keane, Justin Tavares, and Luke Richards.  

The Art Department held the ARHS Annual Art Show reception this Thursday, April 27th, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. On exhibit were works of art from students in the following classes: Art 1, Art 2 Honors, Drawing & Painting, Color & Design, Art 3 & 4 Honors, Digital Art & Photography 1 & 2, Mixed Media, AP Studio Art, Integrated Art, and Art of Healthy Living, who also catered this event, serving sweet and savory treats. Thank you to our artist/musicians who lent lyrical accompaniment. See the Southcoast write up and pictures!

ARHS will be hosting a Local Author EXPO on Saturday, April 29th from 11 am - 2 pm. Admission is free! A few of the authors scheduled to attend: A returning favorite, A. Keith Carreiro - author of science fiction/fantasy/thriller about the quest for human immortality that plays itself out in the 26th century; Brady Knight - diagnosed with autism, Brady is a self-taught author of children’s stories; Judy Cosby - author of inspirational memoirs designed to encourage those to examine life through connections and spirituality; and Lisa Borges - writing from personal experiences, Lisa brings us on an average person’s struggle to lose weight and keep it off! Paul Caranci - a former North Providence councilman who helped the FBI put five men behind bars on corruption charges; Julien Ayotte - a retired financial executive and self-published author with eight fiction books. He hopes to turn at least one into a movie. Angelina Singer - author, editor and journalist who has never been able to fit into any one creative category, Angelina states she is not typical, and neither is her writing; Julie Garnett - an award winning Songwriter, Singer, Musician and author of a children’s musical book; and David Schoorens, author of part thriller, part dystopian fiction, part political intrigue, and part morality play. There are 19 in total - come and see!

Senior English Honors classes flew kites to commemorate their reading of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Spanish 3 Honors students present “Las Charlas” and explain their vacation in the Spanish language. What a treat this past week when five of these students shared in a THIRD language including Greek, Japanese, American Sign Language, Creole, and Russian. Trilingual achievement!

Upcoming Events and opportunities

AP exams will be held from May 1st through May 12th. 336 tests will be administered to 196 students in 16 distinct courses. We applaud our AP scholars and wish them great achievement!

Badminton Club is back! Grab a friend and come to the gym Tuesdays after school until 3:30 pm if you are trying to lose to Mr. Solomon in Badminton.

Student dismissal: Please visit freelake.org and choose the Apponequet website. Click on the “ARHS Parent Dismissal button” and complete the form to dismiss your student.

Reminder of Driving Instructions for Parents/Guardians 

Drop Off - The school opens at 7:00 am and students are supervised in the Lecture Hall until the bell rings at 7:30 am. 

Please note that both entrances are open for drop off this year. Vehicles must exit by the same side as they entered and are cautioned to drive carefully as our student drivers enter the building from the parking lot.  Please contact the Main Office or SRO Bartholomew with any questions. 

Pick Up - We continue to ask parents and guardians to park when arriving for pick up to ensure that cars do not block the bus lanes and Howland Road. If you have any questions about this process, please contact the Main Office or SRO Bartholomew.
