Laker Nation has entered the month of March looking toward spring and the next school year. Grades 9-11 met with each of their teachers and chose classes for 23-24, and what an array of choices they have! We recently presented Laker Nation to the School Committee and community, highlighting our activities, clubs, and some authentic experiences through music, art, Forensics, and more. Please check out our Program of Studies for some of our new courses, including our first AP offering for students as early as grade 10 in Computer Science, Integrated classes in Art, Music, Movement and Fitness, and Maintenance and Repair, Portuguese IV, ARHS Sports Center, and more. Students will meet with their guidance counselors March 13th-March 24th to enroll in their classes for next year.

Our guidance department arranged our annual BCC Palooza event on March 9th in which interested Seniors engage in on-the-spot registration and financial aid.

We held our Spring Parent/Guardian-Teacher Conferences on March 9th from 5:00 -7:00 pm and held 422 conferences. We piloted in-person appointments and will review utilizing that process in the future.

Our SRO has been providing safety tips each day in the month of March, including seat belt laws, safe traveling by train tracks and building safety. The SRO internship is also going strong. Our three SRO interns recently met with police to learn about fingerprinting and will be traveling to the state police lab and Fall River courthouse on March 22nd.

Congratulations to our Apponequet students who competed at the JA Titan Challenge at UMASS Dartmouth on March 8th. The team of Judson Cardinali, Tyler Gray and Logan Frias came in first place, each earning a $1,000 college scholarship. The team of Sophia Kyranos, Eoin Gallagher and Lucas Quinn came in second place, each earning $750, and totaling $9,250 in College Scholarships over the past three years. Since 2015, Apponequet students have earned $24,750 in scholarship money through this challenge and Lakers are known throughout the state for their DECA successes. Forty-two DECA competitors headed to Boston for the state championship March 9-11. We know they will make us proud!

A shout out to our Laker artists who showed their work at the Great Ponds at Lakeville Library. Below is an article about the event.
