BRUINS EVENT in MARCH:  assawompset 1-22 2.0.pdf

AES Yearbook Information:

We are looking for photos to include in our yearbook.  These pictures must be of SCHOOL events and only include current AES students.  We will be utilizing grade-level emails to take submissions.  For example, if you took a picture of your 2nd grader at the Fun Run you would submit the picture to a 2nd-grade yearbook email address.  Please include the child/children's NAME and EVENT in the SUBJECT of the email. Unfortunately, not ALL photos will be included in the yearbook as we will try to include the almost 500 students that AES has in the number of pages that we can use.

A look into our classrooms:

Art:

All classes completed the last step on their clay ornaments. Kindergarten and grade two used paint, while grades 1 and 3 used ceramic glaze.

 Music:

This week all classes K-2 worked on playing holiday music on the boomwhackers!

3rd: Congratulations to the 3rd graders on their AMAZING performance! It was such a  pleasure to work with all of you for the holiday concert!

Library:

This week students are continuing to explore basic computer programming principles. Kindergarten is using the Be Kind module, first grade is using the Beaver Achiever module, second grade is using the Dance Party module and third graders are finishing Dance Party and starting a Minecraft module. All of these activities can be found on the Hour of  Code website.

PE

This week in PE we are continuing our target games unit by playing snowman down. Students are really working up a sweat trying to protect their snowman, and making accurate throws to knock down other snowmen. This week we are beginning to play in teams of two to work on strategy and teamwork.

Kindergarten

This week we focused on the essential question, “What kind of bugs do you know about?” We read “I Love Bugs!” which had us listening for rhymes on every page. We also read “Bugs All Around”, an informational text that taught us some facts about some bugs we may see. We are learning the letters Xx and Yy and continue working on the sight word “like”. In math we have been comparing numbers from 1-10 and using terms such as greater than, less than, more, fewer, and equal. We all enjoyed the holiday concert performed by the third graders and are looking forward to Spirit Week next week!

Grade 1

We began our week with a lovely whole school holiday performance led by Mrs. Eacobacci and third grade students. Our students enjoyed this show very much and had so much fun singing along to some familiar tunes. Nice job third graders!!

Our week’s focus has been on how people help in our community. We are learning how to read words with the suffix s. We also are taking a closer look at nouns and deciding if they are common or proper nouns. In math, students are building number partners for 6 & 7. We also want to give a special thank you to all of the PTO members for putting together this year's Holiday Shoppe! This is always such an exciting time for the students to shop for loved ones in a fun way!

Grade 2

The students have been working hard in grade two. In literacy, writing has been a big focus and the students are showing some nice growth in their sentence structure! During math, students are working hard on Place Value as we help them understand the value of each digit in a number and how to determine which number is greater than another. For social studies, students are engaging in a special project called, “Holidays Around the World.” Each teacher in grade two has become an “expert” on one country’s traditions during this festive time of year. We will cover each continent across the globe as students go from room to room to learn about unique holidays around the world throughout the month of December! Happy Holidays.

Grade 3

The 3rd grade winter performance was spectacular! The children were so excited to perform for the school and families ~ well done to all of them! This week in our Wonders book, the children read a story about Sailing to America focusing on the essential question of: Why do people immigrate to new places?. They also worked on comprehension questions, learned new vocabulary words, and learned about figurative language. In phonics, the children discovered silent letters in words (knot, gnat, wrist). In math, the children are continuing to work on two-part word problems using clue words, models, & pictures to help them. In social studies they are wrapping up the study of the Puritans and in science, life cycles. We’re looking forward to a productive and fun week ahead with lots of activities in each classroom.
