Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Students

AES Needs Your Help!

Would you like to be an AES Pen Pal?

Each summer children move to Lakeville and need a friend when they start school.

YOU could be that friend!

As a pen pal, your responsibility will be to contact the new student through letters, phone calls, emails or hopefully play dates during the summer.  Our goal is for the new student to have YOU as a friend and feel included in our AES community when school starts in September.  You may also be lucky enough to be in the same class too!

If you would like to be an AES pen pal, please have your family complete the information on this form and return it to me by Friday, June 7th.  Thank you for being a great AES student!

PEN PAL - SUMMER 2024

Kindergarten students finished their shark project, making eyes that showed emotions, just by their placement.

First graders used chalk pastel (oh no!) to create texture in their ocean pictures.

Second graders had an amazing show!

Third graders are finishing up their tiles.

MUSIC

K: This week we worked on using our new vocabulary words, presto, largo, forte and piano, and played those various techniques on the instruments.

1st: This week we practiced keeping the beat with our bodies jumping in hoops on the ground to some fun music.

2nd: Congratulations to the 2nd graders on a FANTASTIC performance! I am super proud of each and every child!

3rd: This week we played Music baseball which included answering  questions about music notes, note values and recorder rules!

LIBRARY:

This week in library we are continuing learning about algorithms and coding by playing the game, Coding with Awbie. All grade levels are able to play and participate in small groups- the students are having a lot of fun!

Also, it’s that time of year again for all books to start coming back to the library. If you have any overdue books, please take a look around the house and cars to see if there are any hidden! Thanks so much!

PE

This week in PE we are playing a game that will be a new station at field day. The game is called Tic-Tac-Toe Relay. Just like it sounds it is a relay race where teams attempt to win a game of tic-tac-toe.

ART

In this fast paced game students are getting a lot of exercise running. Additionally the game teaches students on getting used to winning and losing. Lastly, teams are working on taking turns being the judges of the game, while judging students practice being vocal and decision making skills to communicate which team wins the game.

KINDERGARTEN

This week in kindergarten we read the story Hen hears Gossip and discussed how we can be a good citizen.  In math, students were introduced to positional words and used words such as above, behind, below, beside, and in front of to describe the position of objects in the environment.  Students also described objects using shape words.

GRADE 1

Our question this week was “How can we work together to make our lives better?”  We read many great stories like The Cat’s Bell and Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type.  In these two stories we learned about animals that work together to solve problems to make their lives better.  In addition, we started a new unit in Fundations.  This unit will focus on syllables and syllable division.  Have a nice weekend!

GRADE 2

Congratulations to the second graders for an amazing Disney performance this week! The students worked so hard and presented an amazing show. We are so proud of them! In addition to rehearsals we have also been working hard on learning different geometry skills and patterns in math. Students continue to show progress with their reading comprehension and fluency skills. Keep up the good work second graders!

GRADE 3

In Grade 3 we are excited to have finished MCAS. The kids were amazing in their effort and persistence. Three cheers!

We are now doing a unit on extreme weather in Science. We are learning about tools used to predict and measure the weather, and where we can see extreme weather events around the US and world. The children love this kind of info.

In math we are reviewing and practicing concepts and strategies learned this year. In reading we are studying biographies and preparing for our wax museum event. Stay tuned for more details soon!

Counselor’s Corner:

The state requires schools to have current physicals on file for kindergarten and 3rd grade.  If your 3rd grader has an upcoming physical appointment, please request a copy to be sent to the school nurse.  Thank you for helping me and the nurses office stay compliant.
