  • Kindness Always Wins!

COLD WEATHER:

Just a reminder that we do go outside each day.  Please dress your child appropriately with gear for outdoor recess.  This includes hats, mittens, and proper shoes.  Thank you!

MUSIC

This week all classes K-2 talked about Awesome Audience Behavior in preparation for watching the 3rd graders performance next week. We watched some great videos on what we should and should not be doing during a performance. We played a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” activity to show how much we learned.

3rd: The 3rd graders will be performing their Winter concert next week on Wednesday, December 13 @ 10:00 am in the AES gymnasium. Don’t forget to have your child wear their pajamas for both the dress rehearsal on Dec 12th for the school and for the performance for the families on Dec 13th!

ART

Kinders continued working on crayon pressure. They used yellow crayon to create watercolor resist mittens.

Firsties are learning how to mix different shades of blue on symmetrical snowflakes.

Second graders used yardsticks and oval templates to make guitars. We learned about color and emotions, discussing Picasso’s blue period. They blew Ms. T.’s socks off!

Third graders had a catch up week between rehearsals for their big holiday concert. Way to go!

LIBRARY

It’s not too late to donate for the Holiday Book Swap! We will be accepting book donations through Monday. Here is the flyer for more information. Thank you so much!

PE

This week in our throwing and catching unit we are continuing to play snowman down. This week we are playing individually to start and then playing in teams to work on game strategy and teamwork!

KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten students raved about the 3rd graders' performance of their Holiday concert under the direction of Mrs. Eacobacci. Their songs and dances put us all in the holiday spirit. In Wonders, the students read texts that focused on the question What are the different sounds you hear? Students were introduced to the letters v & w. We practiced reading and writing our newest sight word “and”. In math we worked on counting 10 objects in a variety of arrangements.

GRADE 1

First graders were full of the holiday spirit as they enjoyed the performance put on by Mrs. Eacobacci and the 3rd graders.  In Wonders this week, students answered the question of the week, “Where do animals live together?”.  Students read stories and learned about different habitats, climates, and the animals that live within them.  First graders also worked on building and reading words with glued sounds “am, an, and all”. In Math, students are beginning to master their double facts as they begin to work on their double plus one facts.  In Science, students have continued to learn about light and are starting to explore through hands-on activities.

GRADE 2

Second grade had an exciting week this week. Second graders began to learn about winter holidays celebrated in different continents. Each teacher is teaching one continent so students are also getting to meet and interact with all 5 second grade teachers! They will visit 5 continents throughout next week and learn about different holidays. The continents they are visiting include: South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. Ask your child which continents they’ve visited and the activity they completed there!

GRADE 3

This week we wrapped up our 2nd unit in Wonders by reading poetry and answering the essential question, “how do people figure things out?”  We also learned about hyperboles, onomatopoeia, and alliteration.  In writing, students wrote their own free-verse poems about an invention.  In math we worked on solving one-step and two-step word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.   In  science students participated in activities and watched videos about friction, motion, and  balanced and unbalanced forces.
