July 2016 - Welcome from Principal Ward

July 8, 2016

Dear Family and Friends of Freetown Elementary School,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Michael Ward and I am excited and honored to be the new principal of Freetown Elementary School.  Over the past week, I have been spending a lot of time at FES getting to know the building, the school’s community, and bringing myself up to date on Freetown’s school improvement goals, as well as starting to hear about what makes FES such a unique and special place.  Freetown Elementary School is a place where strong connections are made between the home and school and where staff members are committed to developing the whole child.  I value both of these characteristics and am excited to help move FES along the path of excellence.

In my eyes, one of the most important aspects of my work as Freetown Elementary School’s principal will be building solid relationships with students, families, and teachers.  Each day I will make an effort to be in the hallways, classrooms, and on the playground getting to know your child(ren).  In my past experience, I have found that students appreciate a person who genuinely invests in them and who is fair in decision making.  These two notions are extremely important to me.

In addition to building strong relationships with all family and friends of FES, it will be particularly important for me to make sure that your child(ren) and you feel safe at school.  If you ever have a concern about something, a question about a specific situation or procedure please do not hesitate to call or email myself or your child’s teacher.  Communication is paramount in a school.  For this reason, I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher and/or myself.

In the end, I am fortunate to be following Mrs. Sefrino as the principal of the Freetown Elementary School.  Mrs. Sefrino took great pride in everything she did here and I can tell by the many great programs that are in place.  In the end, FES is a school that has many things to be proud of.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you soon to develop and foster a strong relationship between home and school.  I thank you in advance for welcoming me as part of this great learning community!
