Have a wonderful summer!

Sept. 29, 2017

Greetings Laker Nation,

Say cheese!  The Class of 2018 Bleacher Photo is this coming Wednesday at 10:00 am!

AP Physics students accompanied by Mr. Glen and Mrs. Mills traveled to Douglas, MA to launch a weather balloon. The balloon’s payload carried a GPS tracking device, a video recorder, along with sensors to measure temperature, pressure and altitude. The balloon landed in Mansfield and a plan is being formulated to recover its contents and  to analyze the data.  Stay tuned for video footage and information, as it will be posted to our site.

LakeCam is, again, offering our students the opportunity to engage in a TV Production Internship.  Interested students should retrieve an application in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications are due by October 6th.

Our own ARHS Librarian Mrs. O’Brien is offering a Library/Media Studies Internship this year.  Interested students should retrieve an application in the Guidance Office.  Completed applications are due by October 7th.

Congratulations to Dr. Tate!  Bonnie applied for and was awarded one of five 2017 Grants for Empowering Teachers from the Massachusetts Association of Science Teachers.  Dr. Tate will use this grant to purchase more Vernier probes for Chemistry.

The PSATs will be administered to students in grade 11 on Wednesday, October 11th at 7:15 am in the ARHS cafeteria.  There are many reasons why students should consider taking the PSAT.  On average, students who take the PSAT/NMSQT score higher on the SAT than those who do not. The PSAT/NMSQT and SAT measure the same skills and have the same format, directions and question types.  The PSAT/NMSQT also provides entry into the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Corporation competitions as well as other scholarship and recognition programs.  The Student Search Service provides PSAT/NMSQT participants free admission and financial aid information from colleges, universities and scholarship programs. The materials students receive help them start thinking about and exploring higher education opportunities.  Most importantly, the PSAT/NMSQT Score Report Plus gives students comprehensive, personalized feedback on their test performance, allowing them to see which questions they answered incorrectly and which academic skills they should work to improve.  Included in the score report is access to free SAT Test Prep.  The College Board and Khan Academy have partnered to provide free, personalized  on-line SAT study resources including thousands of practice questions and  full length practice tests.  Students who would like to register for the test must bring a check or money order for $16.00, made payable to FLRSD, to the Guidance Office, by Thursday, October 5th. The number of tests available is limited, so students should register as soon as possible!

It is College Fair Season!  Please visit our site and view information about our up-and-coming College Fairs in the section labeled Flyers, Forms and Notices.

Class of 2018:  Senior items for the Yearbook (Senior Photo, Senior Blurb, Baby Photo, Youth Photos) are due to Mrs. Craig by Friday, October 6th.
