Wednesday, June 20, 2018 ~ Day 7

March 2, 2018

Greetings Laker Nation,

ARHS held a Laker Day Celebration last Friday.   The entire student body and our staff received a citation from State Representatives Carole Fiola, Keiko Orrall, and Paul Schmid as a result of outstanding student achievement on the state MCAS exam.  School Committee Chairperson, Jean Fox, also presented a wonderful banner on behalf of the entire School Committee.  The morning assembly culminated with a motivational speech from  Mr. Ed Gerety.   This speech, sponsored by Student Council, brought  “Dude Be Nice Week III” to a fitting conclusion.

The Laker Boys Basketball beat a good Dedham team to advance to the Division 3 South Semi Final on Monday, March 5th, at 7:15 pm vs Norwell.  This game will be played at Taunton High School.

The Lady Lakers will play against GNBRVTHS in their Division 3 Quarter Final on Friday, March 2nd at 6:30 pm at Apponequet.

Congratulations to Julia Norton, Jordan McCloskey, and Cait Sardelis, who finished 5th overall as a team in the Pentathlon.  A special congratulations to Cait Sardelis who scored 3105 points qualifying her for the National Competition!

Congratulations to the Laker Hockey team for an excellent season!  Unfortunately, the Laker skaters lost to a very good Nauset team eliminating them from post-season play.

Congratulations to Jarod Stevens who scored his 100th Laker Hockey career point!

Congratulations to Jaden Estrada who won the Wrestling Division 3 State Championship in his weight class!

Congratulations to the entire Boys Basketball team who received an SCC Sportsmanship Award!

Congratulations to Sophia Gaucher who was named SCC MVP for Girls Basketball!

The Spring Laker online athletic registration is open for the next two weeks.  All students with interest in playing a Spring Sport need to complete all online registrations prior to Thursday March 15th to be eligible to participate on Monday March 19th.  If you have any questions, please contact Athletic Director James Cabucio at 508 947-2660 ext. 1161.

The Advanced Placement Studio Art students will be participating in an art exhibit at the Great Ponds Gallery in the Lakeville Library.  All members of the Freetown-Lakeville community are welcome to join us for the opening reception for this event on Saturday, March 3rd, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.  Visit the reception for a chance to chat with the artists and view some amazing work.  The exhibit may also be viewed from February 26th through March 30th during regular library hours.

As a follow up to Dude be Nice Week here is a great opportunity to help others - DONATE BLOOD.   ARHS will be hosting a Red Cross blood drive here in the gym on Thursday, March 15th.  Students 16 and older and weighing more than 110 pounds are eligible to donate with parent/guardian permission.  Parent/guardian permission forms are available from  advisory teachers or in the Main Office.  Sign ups for donation times will be during all three lunch shifts on March 6, 7 and 8.  The parent/guardian permission form must be turned in to sign up for a time slot.  ARHS and Central Office Staff are invited to donate too.  Be a hero, donate blood, and save a life.

The Distractology trailer has been in place all week and finishes up Friday!   Students experienced eye opening scenarios of the dangers of distracted driving.  Not only did the 50+ students each get a $15 gas card and possible insurance discount, they drove a simulator while using their cell phone and found out the harsh realities of doing so.  SRO Bartholomew and ARHS thank the Arbella Insurance Foundation and Cushman Insurance for the opportunity to learn about distracted driving this week.
