March 24-31, 2017

Greetings Laker Nation,

Congratulations to ARHS’s Mason Marag, Cameron Patrick, and Chase Rogers who earned a 1st place finish at the 3rd Annual JA Titan Challenge at UMASS Dartmouth.  Each will receive a $1,000 college scholarship and the opportunity to compete nationally in May.

Great news for Samantha Turcotte.  This Class of 2017 member won a $1,000 DECA Scholarship.  She will receive the award at ICDC in May!  Here is a link to the announcement on DECA Direct online.

SRO Bartholomew's Internship moved forward with more exciting events.  Sgt. Mike Dwyer from the Lakeville Police Department joined the class this week to explain the SEMLAC team mission and appropriate SWAT response.  The students enjoyed learning about the many towns that participate and make up the team, as well as checking out all of Sgt. Dwyer’s gear. Next on the agenda, the students are planning a trip to the courthouse to see the judicial system in action.

The musical You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown will be performed at Apponequet Regional High School in Lakeville, MA on April 6th, 7th, and 8th at 7pm. Tickets are available for purchase at the door and cost $7 for students/seniors and $10 for general admission. The musical is based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz; the book, music, and lyrics are by Clark Gesner.  The show is directed by Ms. Kristen Lippincott who joins Mr. Edward Ledwith, the musical director, and Mrs. Ashley Rimbey, the choreographer, in producing the show.  Devin Christiansen plays the lead role of Charlie Brown and is joined by Carley Byers as Sally Brown, Lily Jeswald as Lucy van Pelt,  Austin Lopes as Linus van Pelt, Nick Maloof as Schroeder, and Sean Stonehouse as Snoopy.  Together with an ensemble that includes Woodstock, Pig Pen, Frieda, and the Little Red Haired girl, The Apponequet Players are sure to entertain both children and adults in this nostalgic, humorous and high energy musical performance.

ARHS’s Class of 2017 is hosting it’s second annual Spring Family Fun Day on Saturday April 8th at 9:30 am in the Apponequet Cafeteria. The event will include: a continental breakfast, arts and crafts, face painting, photos with the Easter Bunny and raffle baskets. The event will conclude with an egg hunt on the football field at 11:00. Tickets are $5 per child or $10 per family.  Please contact Laura Barnicoat ( or Jessica Motta ( if you have any questions.

Current Art 1 students are a part of an amazing historical art project that reaches beyond the walls of ARHS! This past week, students began a new unit inspired by the Ancient Greeks called Making History: The Trojan Horse Project.  This project has been adapted from a college course at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in conjunction with non-profit educational organization Handshouse Studio. Making History: The Trojan Horse Project promotes critical thinking and collaboration while weaving history and art together. The ultimate goal is to create a full scale model of the Trojan Horse as accurately as possible for the new Spy Museum in Washington, DC. Art 1 students will be studying images of early Greek horse votives and trying to put themselves into the minds of the original makers to recreate these figurines. These models will eventually be collected with the possibility of being part of a large exhibition at the DC Spy Museum.  In addition, filmmakers at Trillium Studios, who often work closely with Handshouse Studio to produce documentaries, will film our students during this project for use in the documentary Making History: The Trojan Horse.  For further information feel free to contact Ms. Lima at or visit  or

It’s that time again!  The Green Sneaker Run 5K to benefit the Eric C Johnson Memorial Scholarship will take place here at Apponequet on Saturday, May 20th.  Check in and registration starts at 9:00 am.  Participants registered before May 1st will receive a T-Shirt.  For additional information, please see the flyer posted on our ARHS website.

Attorney General Maura Healey launched an education campaign to help students and families in Massachusetts better understand financial aid packages offered by colleges. In particular, MA has a new hotline for students to call and online resources to help them better understand their financial award letters.  Students and families with questions or concerns about financial aid award letters should call the Student Loan Assistance Unit’s hotline at 1-888-830-6277 or visit our website:  Here are links to helpful resources at  FacebookandTwitter.
