Congratulations to the following ARHS Art students for their receipt of MA Scholastic Art & Writing Awards! Lexi Barboza won a Silver Key for her photograph "Tubs", an Honorable Mention for her photograph entitled "55", and an Honorable Mention for her photograph entitled "Street Lamp." Carley Byers won a Gold Key for her Film & Animation "Vindicta " and an Honorable Mention for her photograph entitled "The Glass Wish." Carley's video will compete at the national level and will be included in the regional exhibit. Kayla Darling won an Honorable Mention for digital art entitled "Depression." Haylee Gonsalves won an Honorable Mention for her printmaking entitled "Flower." Emma Hryzan won an Honorable Mention for her photograph entitled "Waterworks."
ARHS’s first “Career and College Day” event was a huge success. Students in grades 10 and 11 attended three presentations from among 40 local presenters. Attendees heard from professionals about their personal career narratives. Students in grade 9 attended workshops regarding Course Selection and Use of Naviance. Pictures of this event are on our site. Thanks to Mrs. Fontaine and the Guidance Department for an excellent learning opportunity. Thanks to all who took time out of their professional schedules and presented to our students.
Congratulations to Devin Ahearn! Devin, currently ranked number 1 in the Class of 2017, was awarded the Francis W. Gallishaw Memorial Scholarship. This Scholarship, presented in conjunction with the South Coast Educational Collaborative and the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, was presented on January 31st. In addition to a $1000.00 scholarship, Devin received a certificate, a speech in her honor and a luncheon at the Aviary Restaurant.
Way to go to go Adrianne and Bridget Downey. These Class of 2017 members received our January Laker Nation Awards for their Achievement, Resilience, Honor, and Self-Advocacy. Along with certificates, Adrianne and Bridget received complimentary prom tickets.

Grade 8 Parents/Guardians joined Mrs. Paula Money for “High School Planning for College and Career Success”. This was a valuable presentation for parents/guardians who may have a child entering ARHS. A College Admissions seminar for Class of 2018 parents/guardians and students occurred this week. Offered through MEFA, the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority, the presentation provided an overview of college admissions, including building the college list, college admission trends, the college application process, and basics about financial aid. Families received a seminar handout and were encouraged to visit MEFA's website at www.mefa.org/admissions for additional resources and tools. The Special Education Parent Group invites all parents/guardians and staff to “Seeing Disabilities Through the Eyes of a Child.” This presentation will occur on February 8th, at 6:30 PM, in the ARHS Library. Carol Gromet, School Psychologist, and Ashley Bouley, Special Education Coordinator, will be our presenters for the evening. The purpose is to provide a better understanding of the learning processes and insights into the challenges students face. Babysitting services will be available. Please bring whatever will make your child feel comfortable. Coloring pages and a movie will be available. Contact email@example.com if you have any questions.
The Apponequet Engineering teachers are seeking donations of new or used LEGO bricks for use in our Engineering and Robotics courses. Any and all bricks will be helpful for students to create structures to incorporate into their designs. Engineering incorporates the engineering design process into a variety of challenging projects and Robotics uses the LEGO EV3 Mindstorms robotics kits to complete a variety of engineering design projects. You can drop off any donations, in a bag or box marked Apponequet Engineering, to Apponequet’s Main Office on school days until 2:30 pm.
Students in grade 10 seeking assistance with Math MCAS preparation are welcome to attend free tutoring sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:00 - 2:30 pm, in Room 101. Students in grades 10 seeking assistance with ELA MCAS preparation are welcome to attend on Mondays, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, in Room 113. Students in grade 9 seeking assistance with Biology MCAS preparation are welcome to attend on Mondays, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, in Room 132.
