Raise the Bar

The entire Freetown-Lakeville school community sends our thoughts and prayers to the students and families in Florida, after yet another tragic loss of life as a result of a school shooting this past week.  I want to reassure all stakeholders that the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We will continue to plan, implement ongoing training and protocols, and involve all community groups in making you aware of our commitment toward safety at all five schools.  Please feel free to reach out to district or building administrators if we can help support you in any way moving forward.

The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District voted to remain a School Choice District for the 2018-19 school year.  The school district will provide limited slots in all grades K-12 and at all five schools. The district currently has 46 school choice students.  All pertinent information on this topic including application forms may be found on our website .

We will continue to use the One-Call Communication System to provide families with the necessary school cancellation and delay information.  In addition to the One-Call, we will utilize the school website and all local media outlets to communicate information in a timely manner for our families in Freetown and Lakeville.  Please keep in mind that my decision will be based on multiple reliable sources and will focus on the safety for all children and adults. The third snow day of the year last week, now makes our last school day, Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

The FY 19 Freetown-Lakeville Regional School Preliminary Budget was presented on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. The $38,258,474 budget includes a modest increase of 2.18 % from our current FY 18 budget. Highlights include: continued textbook updates, increased maintenance services, ongoing security upgrades, academic level services with no additional staffing, higher enrollment, increased revenue through school choice, food service, and athletics. In addition, the budget includes the establishment of a Special Education Stabilization Fund and a replacement maintenance vehicle. Please refer to the attached link for the full presentation.

As the FY 19 budget season continues, we will look to your support as we provide appropriate resources to meet our growing educational needs. Our recent success will only continue if we meet our monetary commitment to “raise the bar” in both towns. The preliminary FY 19 school budget discussion will continue at our next school committee meeting, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the ARHS Library.

I look forward to our continued drive toward excellence in 2018, as we raise the bar for all students. Enjoy the upcoming school vacation break. Please be reminded that our next early release day for all students was moved up  and will be on Thursday, March 1, 2018 to provide professional development for our teaching staff.
