February 14 Updates

Thank Yous and Kudos

  • Seventh grader Derren DaCosta went sixteen for sixteen to claim the title of School Champion in the 2019-2020 National Geographic GeoBee. Derren emerged victorious from more than forty students who participated in this year's Bee, narrowly beating out sixth grader Owen Banks. Maverick Nickerson and Jacob Correia finished tied for third. Derren now has the opportunity to qualify for the State Championships and perhaps the Nationals in Washington, DC, in May, and a chance for a college scholarship. Thank you to all of the students who participated and to Mrs. Eddleston and Mrs. Pink for all of their help. Congratulations, Derren, and good luck!

  • MATH AT THE MALL - The 6th grade class took their annual field trip to the mall to apply some of the skills they have learned in math class to the real world on Thursday, February 13. The students had a great time working in small groups to solve math problems pertaining to measurement, prices, percentages, and more. A big thank you to Mr. E. and the rest of the 6th grade teachers for organizing this exceptional learning opportunity.

  • Congratulations to the FLMS Boys and Girls Basketball Teams on their successful 2019-20 seasons.  The boys finished the year with a 8-6 record while the girls were an impressive 9-5. Thank you to Coach Gallagher and Coach Mangini for their efforts this year.

8th Grade News

Students in the 8th grade ELA classes have become junior journalists this week to write feature articles on a wide variety of researched topics including healthy living, social media, politics, entertainment and more! Students chose a text structure appropriate to their topic and used the formatting tools of Google Slides to add graphic design elements and text features. We can't wait to display these magazine-worthy projects!
