The Massachusetts Commissioner of Education, Mitchell Chester has provided some guidance for all school communities on the importance of the upcoming state assessment period. Please click here to see the letter providing some details and expectations as we prepare for this important activity. In addition, Governor Baker has declared March as Youth Arts Month in Massachusetts. Please take this opportunity to recognize and support our quality school art programs at all levels. A well-rounded comprehensive education must include problem solving, creativity, and a recognition of developing visual arts experiences.
The question of homework and school vacations recently was brought to my attention. For clarification purposes, the district agreed to celebrate a “no homework” policy for the recent holiday break in December and January at all levels. No other vacation periods were considered for this academic year. Please keep in mind, we fully support the balance of school work with quality family time during breaks in the school year. Our educators work diligently for our children, and that involves the reinforcement of information through homework assignments. We will continue to monitor the situation, as the social and emotional health of our students is as important as their academic progress.
The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District FY 18 budget was approved by the school committee at their most recent meeting. The 5.9 percentage increase from the FY 17 budget is a level services budget. Please join us at our school budget hearing, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in the ARHS library beginning at 6:30 p.m. We will need your support more than ever as we look to provide appropriate resources to meet our growing educational needs.
Please be reminded our last school day is currently, Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour this weekend. Thank you for your support and I look forward to our continued drive toward excellence. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call at 508-923-2000 ext. 1703 or e-mail me at email@example.com.
