Last week the DESE Commissioner of Education, Mitchell Chester, in his quarterly conference call to the state superintendents, recognized the terrific work and results of the state of Massachusetts in public education. Not only are we in Massachusetts outperforming all other states, but we are matching results with the top tier nations throughout the world on multiple student assessments. Here in Freetown-Lakeville, we are now gearing up for the next generation MCAS testing using technology in grades 3-8. In addition, Governor Baker has made his recommendations for the state FY 18 budget and we will need to monitor this closely for the impact in both towns.
The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District FY 18 preliminary budget continues to be examined by all stakeholders. The initial 5.9 percentage increase from the FY 17 budget is a level services budget. Please join us at our next school committee meeting, Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the ARHS library beginning at 6:30 p.m. We will need your support more than ever as we look to provide appropriate resources to meet our growing educational needs. Our last school committee meeting topics included: the 2017-18 school calendar, our FY18 budget, a school choice vote for the 2017-18 school year, campus program updates, and a food services program review.
Please enjoy the upcoming school vacation. Thank you for your support and I look forward to our continued drive toward excellence in 2017. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call at 508-923-2000 ext. 1703 or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
