On Monday, September 27, DESE announced that the mask requirement in schools will be extended until at least November 1 but that as of October 15, if a school demonstrates a vaccination rate of 80 percent or more of all students and staff, then vaccinated individuals in that school would no longer be subject to the state mask requirement. Whether or not a school or district avails themselves of the 80 percent vaccination off ramp is a local decision to be made by school and district leaders in consultation with local health officials.
The Month of October is National Principals Month. Please join the entire Freetown-Lakeville School Community to recognize our outstanding principals who work hard to create safe learning environments for every child to succeed in Freetown and Lakeville. Please take this opportunity and join me in thanking: Mrs. Kahlan Dessert, Mr. John Higgins, Dr. Elizabeth Sullivan, Ms. Bethany Pineault, and Mr. Mike Ward for all their hard work and dedication.
The FLRSD website has reported 29 cases on the COVID District Dashboard so far for the 2021-22 school year, with only 1 positive case recorded this week. We also continue to include school numbers, weekly town COVID information from the State, and updates from the DESE regarding COVID cases in the Commonwealth. The school district will continue to use the One-Call Communication System to provide families with necessary safety updates throughout the fall.
