Raise the Bar

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released the 2018 MCAS accountability results last week. We will review and analyze the first year results as we continue to improve our school district. Individual Parent/Student Reports were mailed out on Thursday for your children. The FLRSD received a designation as “not requiring assistance or intervention” and partially meeting targets.  The state designated 90% of districts in this category with 75% of Massachusetts school districts categorized as partially meeting targets. Individual school and district results will be reviewed in more detail at the November 7, 2018 school committee meeting

It is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.  The Department of Homeland Security provides many resources, I have highlighted several for your review on this important topic:

The school district will continue to use the One-Call Communication System to provide families with the necessary school cancellation or delay information.  The school district is once again using a web-based program, Parents Plus Portals, where parents will be able to access information about their child’s educational progress and grades. Parents of students in grades 4-12 will have access to the portal.  Please take advantage of this wonderful communication tool for your children. Parents or students with questions on accessing their Portal accounts may email plusportal@freelake.org.

We continue to strengthen our relationship with the senior citizens in both Freetown and Lakeville. The school district will host two senior breakfast events on October 17, 2018 at Freetown Elementary School and October 24, 2018 at Assawompset Elementary School. The last few years these events were a huge success and we look forward to our continued partnership with the Council on Aging in both communities.

Please be reminded that Monday, October 8, 2018 is a holiday and there is no school.  Please enjoy the long weekend. Our next school committee meeting for the 2018-19 school year will be Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the ARHS Library.  I look forward to our continued drive toward excellence, as we raise the bar for all students.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call 508-923-2000 ext. 1703 or email me at rmedeiros@freelake.org.
