Happy New Year! As we begin 2021, the FLRSD website continues to provide information on our district dashboard to report positive cases and close contacts at each school on a daily basis. The website also provides weekly town Covid information from the state and weekly DESE Covid cases for all schools in the Commonwealth. The state recognizes that the upcoming winter season continues to pose a challenge to all stakeholders in their efforts to limit students’ and staff’s exposure to COVID-19. We encourage families and students to review the best practices from the Department of Public Health.
We want to thank you for your help in keeping COVID-19 from spreading in our schools as much as possible by keeping your children home when they are sick. Many of you have contacted the school nurses for advice and have been working hard to help us keep our schools as safe as possible. We will be adding a new weapon in our arsenal to fight COVID-19, the ability to perform a Abbott BinaxNow Rapid Antigen Test on those individuals who may develop symptoms while in school. Our nurses have all completed the training and have the appropriate equipment. Please note it is still most important to keep sick students home and get them tested at an appropriate testing facility. Rapid antigen testing has limitations and a negative antigen test will not allow your child to return to class. A negative antigen test must be followed by a PCR test or your child must quarantine at home for a minimum of 10 days. However if an antigen test is positive it will allow us (and you) to begin the process of contact tracing and notification immediately. Early next week you will receive a one-call message from the principals and nurses regarding this new safety measure. If you are interested in being part of this process you may consent by completing several quick steps that will be outlined for you in the message from the schools.
The FLRSD Hybrid Model continues to allow for both cohorts to attend in-person instruction at all levels. Please note we have an early release day next Friday along with a long, holiday weekend. The future schedule through April 2, 2021 for the second semester remains posted on our website. The district will continue to plan for future in-person instruction decisions based on state modifications and current data.
We have already completed 70 school days in this academic year. The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District will continue to use the One-Call Communication System to provide families with necessary safety updates and school cancellation or delay information. You may have noticed last month that I will only use the news outlets for a true “snow day” call. The safety of our students and staff remains my top priority.
The FLRSD dashboard reported six (6) new positive COVID cases (not including the winter break numbers) this past week impacting our school district community. Each school continues to follow protocols and procedures to provide a safe environment. Our 2020-21 motto of “Respect, Patience, and Flexibility” combined with our district theme of “Raise the Bar'' continues to drive our decision making
