I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Please take this opportunity to reflect on what is truly important and enjoy some quality time at home. As we complete one quarter of the school year, please know that we remain committed to all of our Freetown and Lakeville families during this holiday season. The state recognizes that the upcoming Thanksgiving and winter holidays may pose a challenge to all stakeholders in their efforts to limit students’ and staff’s exposure to COVID-19. We encourage families and students about the best practices that the Department of Public Health has outlined:
Individuals should stay within their household: For a lower-risk celebration, people should limit in-person holiday gatherings to only people they live with or limit the gathering to a small group of individuals with whom they are regularly in contact.
Avoid travel: Anyone considering travel should review and abide by Massachusetts travel orders, and people who want to travel to another state that is not a lower-risk state should be aware of the quarantine requirements involved with such travel. The holidays will necessarily look different this year, and we appreciate all that educators, students, and families are doing to limit their risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19.
The FLRSD Hybrid Model abbreviated schedule for next week allows for both cohorts to attend in-person instruction at all levels. This provides equity leading up to the Thanksgiving break. Please note we also made the same modification prior to our winter break in December. The school committee voted on a future schedule for the second semester (see attached).
We have already completed 44 school days in this academic year. As the cold weather and holiday season approaches, the Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District will continue to use the One-Call Communication System to provide families with necessary safety updates and school cancellation or delay information. The safety of our students and staff remains my top priority.
This past week we did not experience any isolated COVID cases impacting our school community. Each school continues to update protocols and procedures for a continued safe reopening. Our 2020-21 motto of “Respect, Patience, and Flexibility” combined with our district theme of “Raise the Bar” continues to drive our decision making
The FLRSD Superintendent’s Office remains open daily but will close early on Wednesday, an early release day in the district. Our next school committee meeting will be Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library. Our agenda will be available on our website under Announcements. Please continue to stay safe and enjoy the upcoming holiday break. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call 508-923-2000 ext. 1703 or email me at email@example.com.
