Raise the Bar

Welcome back to the start of another exciting school year! The first week is in the books! Thank you so much for your continued support and cooperation as we work through our “new” opening of school routines. Our pre-school and kindergarten children joined us on Thursday, September 9, 2021. The FLRSD current enrollment for this year is 2,773 children, which is up 67 students from last year.

Today, Friday, September 10, 2021 our schools participated in a moment of peaceful reflection on the 20th anniversary of 9-11 in honor and remembrance for all those lost. This event has become an annual tribute to not only those individuals lost on 9-11, but the many who continue to serve our communities and nation. This continued act of unity by our school children serves as a reminder of our strength as a community, state, and nation

The FLRSD website will continue to report cases on the COVID District Dashboard for the 2021-22 school year. We also continue to include school numbers, weekly town covid information from the State, and updates from the DESE regarding COVID cases in the Commonwealth. We continue to see increased positivity rates in both communities so we must remain vigilant on necessary safety protocols and procedures.

The FLRSD  motto of “Respect, Patience, and Flexibility” was put to the test last year driving our decision making. The school district will continue to use the One-Call Communication System to provide families with necessary safety updates throughout the fall. In addition to our many mitigation strategies, this year we are excited about a new partnership with the Bristol County Sheriff's K-9 Covid Officers and 2 covid dogs to provide one more unique layer of protection for our school community.  They have already visited multiple schools in our district before school started and in the coming weeks, may visit one school per day focusing on covid protection. The officers will report to the main office upon arrival at each school and all communication will be with the building administrators and the school nurse.  We are excited and look forward to working together in this exciting initiative.

Our next school committee meeting will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the ARHS Library. The agenda will be available on our website under the District Tab. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call 508-923-2000 extension 1703 or email me at rmedeiros@freelake.org.
