Full Regionalization
|
November, 2009 Welcome to the Full Regionalization Committee page of the Freetown and Lakeville Public School’s Website. The committee was established as a sub-committee of the Regional School Committee. As such, all meetings are subject to the Open Meeting Law and minutes of said meetings are available for public viewing. The committee’s charge was to review the Report on Full Regionalization conducted by the New England School Development Council (NESDEC) and explore the possibility of fully regionalizing the entire school district. The Freetown and Lakeville Public School District is currently made up of three separate and distinct districts. There is Freetown PK-4, Lakeville PK-4, and Freetown-Lakeville Regional 5-12. Each district has its own school budget. There are a total of over 3,200 students in five schools across all three districts. There are four school committees, one superintendent of schools and one central office. The essential question before the communities of Freetown and Lakeville is whether or not a single district might present greater cost efficiencies and effectiveness, thus leading to an improvement in the educational program offered the children of both towns. If we all can agree that the goal is to have the best educational program possible for the revenue available, then full regionalization may present one way to get there. Ultimately it will be up to the citizens of the towns to decide if they would like to fully regionalize their school system. We encourage all citizens to become educated on this topic as there is much at stake. A major decision such as this one should only be undertaken after careful study, discussion and planning. We ask you to check back here often to learn about the work of the Full Regionalization Committee and decide for yourself whether full regionalization makes sense for these communities at this time in their history. Sincerely,
