Mr. David Friedrichs

This year in 7th Grade Science, we are studying Life Science. Here is some interesting information on a fascinating creature, the ant lion:

Adult antennae: long and knobbed
Adult wingspan: 2 to 16 cm (up to 6 inches)
The larvae are called doodlebugs.
They have long, sickle-like jaws.
They build conical pits, up to 5 cm (2 inches) deep, and wait at the bottom for prey (ants and other insects). Ant lions toss sand at insects to make them fall into the hungry jaws!
