Folktales are stories handed down form generation to generation. Every country and every culture has favorite tales that entertain and usually teach a lesson or explain something in nature.
The stories usually follow a pattern. The main character encounters a problem and finds a solution. The characters and the listeners both learn a lesson.

These are the characteristics we discovered while reading folktales. No tale has all of these.
